As of Thursday, November 6, patients at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s renal unit are expected to resume receiving care, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

According to reports, the decision to reopen the facility to outpatients was made at a meeting on Friday, November 3, when everyone present agreed.

After several months of closure, this will happen.

Outpatients had been unable to access the unit since May 22, 2023, which forced them to look for dialysis services elsewhere, primarily in private healthcare facilities.

On September 27, there was a partial reopening and a notification that the cost of a dialysis session will increase from GH¢380 to GHS¢765.42.

But in response to public protest, this fee increase was reversed, and the facility continued to be closed to outpatients.

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s management was given the go-ahead to quickly reopen the facility by Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, the Minister of Health.

This week, the Health Minister is expected to testify before Parliament.
