The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has broken ground for the construction of boy’s dormitory and kitchen for Nyohani children’s home in the Tamale Metropolis, Northern Region.

After learning about the facilities’ terrible condition, the Church planned to give them the necessary renovations.

Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony, president of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints Africa West area, Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, while sharing the teachings of Jesus Christ stated, “this is not an easy work. In fact, it is very difficult, but when like minded people work together you can accomplish miracles,” he said.

He said that in order to maintain peace in the region and care for the children, the Church is collaborating closely with its Muslim neighbors.

The church’s first counselor and general authority, Elder Alfred Kyungu, stated in his remarks that he was happy to see the smiles on the faces of the kids. “we want to help make the lives of these children better. We know that when we love and help our neighbors, then, we are showing our love for our Heavenly Father.”

The Mayor of Tamale, Sule Salifu, expressed commendation for the church leadership’s initiative in addressing the infrastructure challenges faced by Nyohani Children’s Home.

Nyohani Children’s Home currently provides shelter for abandoned children in the northern region, catering to those from three weeks old to teenagers. The home encounters various challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of access to clean drinking water, the absence of a protective fence against traffic and vehicles, insufficient funds for feeding and staffing, among other issues.

In a related development, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leadership presented a generous donation of food items to Nyohani Children’s Home. The donated items comprise ten bags of rice, four gallons of cooking oil, six cartons of mackerel, ten bags of sugar, two bags of millet, two bags of beans, four boxes of tomatoes, thirteen boxes of spaghetti, seven boxes of frozen chicken, and a bag of salt.

Madam Sarah Sulemana, the acting Manageress of the home, expressed her joy upon receiving the items on behalf of the children and extended gratitude to the church leadership for their thoughtful gesture.
