Naa Amadu Mohammed, the chief of Chanzheni, a farming community in the Tamale Metropolis, has been named the Tamale Metropolis’ overall best farmer in the Northern Region.

Naa Amadu Mohammed was awarded a tricycle, cutlasses, wellington boots, a bag of fertilizer, a packet of zinc, a knapsack sprayer, and a certificate of recognition in exchange for his prize.

One zinc packet, a bag of fertilizer, cutlasses, a pair of wellington boots, a knapsack sprayer, a certificate, and a bag of fertilizer were awarded to the first runner-up.

Best Crop Farmer, Best Livestock Farmer, Best Fish Folk Farmer, Best Agro Forester, Best Physical Challenge Farmer, Best Agric Office, and Best Youth Farmer were among the recipients of the awards.

Farmers were honored at a ceremony in Fooshegu, a farming community in the Tamale Metropolis, where they received a variety of prizes, including a bag of fertilizer, a packet of zinc, smart televisions, a mist blower, cutlasses, knapsack sprayers, wellington boots, and certificates.

The event, attended by Tamale Metropolitan Assembly staff, Heads of Department, traditional leaders, and others, saw Mayor Honorable Sule Salifu emphasizing the enduring significance of agriculture in the local economy. Despite the urban nature of the Tamale Metropolis, he highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to supporting agriculture through initiatives such as farm visits, skills training on best farming practices, and engagement with farmers.

Mayor Sule Salifu commended the farmers for their vital role in sustaining and contributing to the socio-economic development of the country. He also praised the Metropolitan Agric Director and staff for their dedicated efforts in fulfilling their responsibilities.

Encouraging the youth to embrace agriculture as a profession, Mayor Sule Salifu urged them to take advantage of government initiatives and incentives that make farming an attractive venture. In an interview with the media, Naa Amadu Mohammed also encouraged the youth to consider farming as a profitable venture.
