A weeklong Hepatitis B screening and vaccination program has been arranged for the residents of Savelugu by the Paramount Chief of the Savelugu traditional area, Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, in association with the AL-SHIFAA HOSPITAL of the Savelugu Municipality.

The program’s goal was to raise awareness of the illness in the municipality, and it was hosted at the Yoo Naa’s palace forecourt.

This is the third time the chief and his allies have arranged a medical exercise of this kind for his people; the first was conducted in 2020, when the chief’s old schoolmates brought in a number of doctors to evaluate the Savelugu people.

While characterizing hepatitis B as a silent killer, Yoo Naa Abdulai Andani told the media that the practice was necessary because most of his people were unaware of their status.

Naa Abdulai Andani added, “health is essential for the progress of every country; therefore it is important for everybody to take their health seriously”.

“Don’t wait till the sickness consumes your body before you will seek medical attention. Try and do regular medical checkups most especially Hepatitis B. It can be treated at an early stage but if you allow it to consume the entire body this may become difficult to fight”, he advised.

Therefore, he pleaded with the residents of Savelugu Municipality to participate in the current activity so they can learn about their health, particularly with regard to hepatitis B.

Leading a team of medical professionals for the exercise, Dr. Bright Atta Ashanti, the medical director of the AL-SHIFAA HOSPITAL, stated that the goal of the activity was to screen and vaccinate more than 5,000 individuals.

He expressed his gratitude to the chief, whose assistance made the mass testing exercise possible.

Following the screening procedure, a few of the recipients spoke with diamondfmonline.com to thank the administration and head of Al-shifaa Hospital for launching this initiative to enhance public health.
