On Thursday, November 30, 2023, the Northern Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) visited the main thoroughfares of the greater Tamale area to educate the locals about the “My NHIS App.”

The NHIA designated a number of events to commemorate the scheme’s 20th anniversary, and the sensitization exercise was one of them.

The authority, led by Mr. Issahak Abdul-Latif, the Northern Regional Director of NHIA, and employees of NHIS offices throughout the region, stormed offices, marketplaces, and other public spaces to inform and help the public download the “My NHIS App” and create accounts, which serve as a platform for new registration and membership renewal.

In addition, NHIA representatives hand out flyers to locals and instruct drivers.

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) unveiled “My NHIS,” an online registration portal. With the help of a handy mobile app, residents in Ghana and beyond can now use their Ghana cards and register for the NHIS whenever it’s most convenient for them.

Speaking outside the exercise, Mr. A.Latif stated that the sensitization exercise was necessary because people in the greater Tamale area needed to learn about the MyNHIA App.

While stressing the significance of the app, Mr. A. Latif stated that the authority hopes to download it to over a million users and that more than fifty users have already done so.

“With this App, one person with one Ghana card can register ten people into NHIS without any difficulty”, he revealed.

Speaking about the issue of members of the scheme being required to pay out-of-pocket at different accredited health facilities, Mr. A Latif issued a warning, saying that the scheme’s authority would not give up on its efforts and would make sure that any money that was improperly taken from NHIS clients would be returned to them.

He underlined, “We take this specific program very seriously.”

In order to stop the illicit payments at the various health facilities, he calls on the media to keep supporting the initiative.

Mr. A Latif also expressed his gratitude to the media and NHIA employees for their increased efforts in advancing the expansion of the NHIS across the nation.
