Mr. Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) director of communications, has congratulated all of the pupils who were accepted into the senior high schools this year.

He emphasized that these pupils will gain from the current free senior high school (Free SHS) program.

Regarding this year’s senior high school placement, Mr. Ahiagbah stated on his X platform  “The Free SHS policy is a game-changer. The forward history and development aspirations of our people will be led by beneficiaries of Free SHS education. Call them Akufo-Addo scholars or professionals.

“This is the look and feel of a game-changer policy. So, H.E John Mahama & the NDC who want to cancel the Free SHS policy are on the wrong side of history. Congratulations to the 82% of JHS pupils who have been placed in their preferred schools. For the 18% who have to do self-placement, I wish you a smooth process. Do take full advantage of the Free SHS and flourish because you are the future.”

On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, the school placement was released.

A press release from the Ministry of Education stated that 585,797 candidates were eligible to be placed out of the 598,839 results that were received from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

“A total of 477,772 (81.56%) have automatically been placed in one of their choices,” the ministry stated.

The ministry claims that this is a major improvement over the previous year. Nevertheless, none of the 108,025 (18.44%) eligible applicants could be matched with them.

As a result, the ministry has recommended that all of these students use “self-placement” to choose from among the institutions that are open.

“Schools Selected on Self-Placement Portal can be changed as many times as the candidate wishes on the portal until they enroll in a school,” the ministry declared.

Additionally, it guaranteed “all students, especially those who could not be matched with their choices during the automatic placement, parents and the general public that all schools with vacancies have been uploaded on the portal for students to select from during self-placement without hitches.”
