Mayor Sule Salifu, at the helm of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, has set the stage for a groundbreaking moment through the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) Projects. In a move that promises to uplift the community, a ceremonial sod-cutting event marked the commencement of an exciting venture – the construction of an artificial grass pitch, affectionately referred to as an “astro-turf” pitch, within the Zogbeli cluster of schools.
This state-of-the-art facility, measuring a remarkable 100 by 60 centimeters, will not just be your run-of-the-mill sports ground. It’s set to dazzle with a constellation of floodlights and an array of auxiliary amenities designed to transform it into a hub of recreational excellence. The forthcoming pitch will be enclosed by a chain-link fence, encapsulating the epitome of modern sports infrastructure.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Honorable Sule Salifu, radiated optimism about this project’s transformative potential.
He revealed, “I want to say it on authority that, since 1992 no government has ever put up such a project in the Zogbeli community. This project alone is taking three million Ghanaian Cedis out of the 4.7 million Cedis allocated. This is the kind of investment the Akuffo Addo government is bringing to Zogbeli.”
He passionately encouraged the residents of Zogbeli to embrace this project as their own, emphasizing that it was their voices that led to its inclusion. He added, “I think that the Zogbeli people must take this project as their project. We never selected this project for the people of Zogbeli. That was their concern, and we had to relay the message to His Excellency the President. Thankfully, the President included Zogbeli in his plan, and that’s why Zogbeli is now poised to benefit from the SOCO funds with the construction of this remarkable astro-turf.”
Mayor Sule Salifu assured the public that this venture would unfold over three years, with this inaugural phase marking just the beginning of the positive transformations. He rallied support and patience from the community, promising that the government’s initiatives would be evenly distributed across all communities under the leadership of President Akuffo Addo.
The Mayor didn’t forget to nudge the appointed contractor to adhere to the agreed-upon project timelines. Meanwhile, it was revealed that the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly had already received and handed over various items, including motorbikes and laptops, as part of the larger SOCO project.
The SOCO project, a five-year developmental odyssey spanning 48 districts across six regions, has been set in motion by the Ghanaian government. With a substantial $150 million credit facility secured from the World Bank, this initiative is poised to bring meaningful change and empowerment to communities on a grand scale.
