A notable figure from the Office of the President, Hajia Fathia Abdul-Aziz, achieved a significant triumph by defeating the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Savelugu Constituency, Honorable Somed Gunu, in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary primaries held on Saturday.
Hajia Fathia, commonly known as ‘Boss Lady,’ garnered substantial support with 532 votes, while her close rival, Honorable Somed Gunu, managed to secure 121 votes.
The victory of ‘Boss Lady’ Hajia Fathia extended across areas traditionally considered strongholds of the former MP, as she dominated most of the electoral areas.
With a total of 661 delegates, 656 participated in the voting process, resulting in three rejected votes. The election proceeded seamlessly without any complications.
The pre-primary campaign was marked by intensity, with both candidates energetically traversing the Savelugu constituency. They addressed delegates, presenting their visions and plans for the area.
In her triumphal speech, Hajia Fathia called on all party supporters to unite in the effort to reclaim the parliamentary seat for the NPP.
“I did not win. In fact, it is the NPP that won. I want to pledge that going forward, I am going to work with all party people in the Savelugu Constituency. We don’t have Honorable Somed Gunu’s team, neither do we have Hajia Fathia’s team. Please, let us come together. Let’s us unite to capture power from the NDC”, she pleaded.
Hajia Fathia also expressed gratitude for the support received from her electoral executives, party elders, and campaign team.
