Erastus Asare Donkor of the Multimedia Group has won the 27th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards’ P.A.V Ansah Journalist of the Year title.

At the event on Sunday at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mr. Donkor, a journalist for JoyFM, JoyNews, and Luv FM—all divisions of The Multimedia Group—was crowned.

The award was presented to him by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa.

Eratus Asare Donkor was also awarded the Best Reporter on Illegal Mining title that evening. His outstanding reporting and documentaries on galamsey and its repercussions on the nation’s natural and human resources earned him the honor.

Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Donkor expressed his gratitude to the staff at The Multimedia Group as well as his coworkers “who sacrifice their lives every day with me” for their support.

“I am incredibly honored and proudly humbled to be here today, in front of you, to accept this national award for investigative journalism. It is an acknowledgment of the value of responsible journalism in our society as well as of my work. We have seen the disastrous effects of careless mining for far too long in Ghana, a country rich in potential and natural resources.”

“The harsh reality of illegal mining has been revealed by our investigation, which was motivated by a commitment to truth and justice. The story of crushed hopes, lost livelihoods, and lives irrevocably altered is the legacy of careless mining, not the degradation of the environment. As journalists, we have a great responsibility to speak up for the voiceless and shed light on issues that could endanger the future of our country, according to Mr. Donkor.

Meanwhile, the Multi-media Group won seven additional honors that evening.

Collincia Ayifa received student an award, and News file—your go-to source for reliable news analysis—was recognized with another honor.
