Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, has emphasized that his criticisms of the current government do not make him disloyal to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He stated his intention to strengthen both the NPP in a governing capacity and the nation of Ghana as a whole. During an interview with Ghana360news, he emphasized that he wasn’t criticizing or attacking the government. He believed that, as the president encouraged citizens to be active participants rather than mere spectators, he was offering his insights to enhance the party and improve the state of Ghana.
When asked whether he considered himself disloyal to the NPP, he firmly responded, “Not at all. I am a patriot; that’s what I would say. The term ‘traitor’ is far removed from my standpoint.”
The former Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) authored a 36-page document titled “Report on the work of IMCIM so far and the way forward.” This report made a series of allegations concerning government officials’ involvement in illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey).
The Attorney-General, Godfred Dame, reviewed the report and subsequently offered guidance to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). The guidance pointed out that all the individuals mentioned in Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s report refuted the allegations made against them.
According to Mr. Dame, numerous attempts by the Police to obtain additional information from Professor Frimpong Boateng to substantiate the allegations in the report and assist in further investigations were unsuccessful.
“The Professor declined to provide any additional information to the police,” the A-G stated, as per Mrs. Keelson, the Chief State Attorney.
Furthermore, Mr. Dame revealed that investigations by the Police failed to uncover any evidence supporting the allegations.
Consequently, the allegations were considered unsubstantiated and did not provide grounds for any criminal charges against those mentioned in the report. However, Prof Frimpong-Boateng disputed the Attorney-General’s assertion, stating, “It is not accurate. I fully cooperated with the CID; I am not an investigative agent.”
