Some 200 women farmers in Yendi and its catchment areas have received farm inputs from Partnership for Poverty Reduction (PPR), a non-profit organization working in the Northern Region.

They received bottles of weedicide sprays, cutlasses, Wellington boots and knapsack sprayers.

The intervention is to support the women farmers improve their farming methods and increase productivity.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries in Yendi, founder of the NGO Farouk Aliu Mahama, who is also the Member of Parliamet for Yendi, indicated that the move is to empower women in agriculture in the Northern Region.

“Since 2017, PPR has supported over 1000 women farmers within the Eastern corridor enclave to increase productivity and eradicate poverty.

“Women bear 80 percent of the daily expenditure at home and in most cases 100 percent in rural communities here in the North and if they are not empowered to do more agriculture, then how will they be able to feed their families.”

The Yendi lawmaker assured the beneficiaries that he will lobby for other inputs such as the Planting for Food and Jobs fertilizer and small ruminants for those interested in rearing of livestock.

Secretary to the overlord of Dagbon Abdul Rahsaan Musah, said he was elated over the implementation of the PPR project in Dagbon and said its impact over the years cannot be overemphasized.

“Ya-Na is a farmer and knows how difficult it is for women farmers hence assures you and your organization of his support to empower Dagbon women.”

A beneficiary, Jagri Marry, from the Kpandai District expressed gratitude to PPR for the support.

PPR was established by the MP in 2017 to eradicate poverty within the Eastern Corridor enclave over the past years.
