Hooliganism Reemerges as a Major Concern in Ghana Premier League Amid Weekend Matches
During the latest round of matches in the Ghana Premier League, hooliganism has once again become a significant issue. Multiple incidents were reported over the weekend, leading to widespread disappointment and growing calls for punitive actions against those responsible.
According to Ghana360news sports correspondent, the most notable incident occurred during the Sunday match between Asante Kotoko and local rivals Nations FC, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Outraged Kotoko fans, reacting to a contentious late penalty decision, resorted to acts of vandalism by damaging seats and throwing objects onto the field. This unruly behavior disrupted the game for over 10 minutes and has received substantial criticism.

In various locations, additional instances of hooliganism were reported. In Dawu, during the match between Dreams FC and Medeama, and in Dormaa, Aduana FC supporters reportedly threw projectiles, with one hitting the Great Olympics goalkeeper.
In Tamale, after Bofoakwa Tano’s match ended in a 0-0 draw against Karela United, the players required police escort and left the stadium in a police bus.
These regrettable incidents have cast a shadow over discussions surrounding the league, and mounting pressure is being directed at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take decisive action. As of the current moment, the GFA has not issued an official statement addressing these troubling events.
