Due to the prevalence of open defecation, typhoid fever and malaria are on the rise in the Buipe neighborhood. Nearly 85% of instances of typhoid fever and malaria reported to medical facilities, according to health officials.
Over 7,000 people in the Buipe village have been impacted by floodwaters over the past month. Numerous houses and other buildings have been destroyed. The majority of the victims are currently living in schools.
In an interview with Ghana360news correspondent, Osman Fuseini, Bridgewurche Barchisu Mankir, a Queen mother whose area has been severely hit said “the increase in typhoid cases is due to the use of contaminated water sources. Because there is no access to clean water and all of our public restrooms have been inundated, people are forced to drink the same water that they urinate in.”
She described the event as terrifying and disastrous. “The floods are certainly taking a toll on us. The gaps in healthcare will get worse as a result of this circumstance. “Go to the hospital and observe people lying there; even individuals who are at home are afflicted with malaria and typhoid.”
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the Yapei-Kawsagu Constituency, John Jinapor, former President John Mahama, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Maltiti Foundation are among some individuals who have donated to the victims.
The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area Abdulai Jinapor II has appealed to individuals and organizations to come to their aid.
