The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints distributed food items to over 800 households in the Tamale Metropolis and nearby communities in the Northern Region. This initiative aligns with the launch of its inaugural Christmas program, named “Light the World: Give as He Gave,” commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It reflects an extension of the church’s commitment to humanitarian and capacity-building efforts, aiming to illuminate the significance of Christmas.
Families gathered at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium early to receive their allotted food items. The church’s objective is to promote kindness and unity within communities, echoing the spirit of ‘Peace, goodwill toward men’ (Luke 2:14). This year’s focus is on the importance of fostering love among individuals.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Let Your Light Shine,” with anticipation that more countries and communities will actively participate.
Speaking to Ghana360news after presenting the items to beneficiaries, the president of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints Africa West area, Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, said, “one of the things we want to do is, we want to follow the examples of our savior Jesus Christ. He thought two very important principles; to love the Lord and love your neighbor ghbour, and we feel like we have our neigbours here today”.
Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, while praising the people of Tamale for coming out massively to receive the items, also urged the beneficiaries to share what they have received with their neigbours. “We want the beneficiaries to take the food and find their own light, the world experience. They should find somebody they can love, find somebody they can help, and that will be extremely work for all of us’.
Speaking on the ’25 Ways in 25 Days’, Elder S. Gifford Neilsen narrated that, “25 ways in 25 Days is something significant to us because that help us every day. Think about little act of kindness. They are 25 ways in the next 25 days before Christmas, to able to look around our neighborhood and try to do something nice for them. If everybody here today did that, what will happen to Tamale? It will be significant; it will change the whole feelings of Tamale, wherever we are. If every one just think about someone else rather themselves, our communities will be stronger. There will be more love and care, and I think everybody would be lifted to the other level”.
In his speech, Tamale Mayor Hnorable Sule Salifu, who was speaking on his behalf, praised the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ leadership for providing assistance to the residents of the Tamale Metropolis and the surrounding communities.
Certain recipients, unable to contain their joy, also conveyed their appreciation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints authorities.
