Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, one of the founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Central Bank governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, to step down from his position if he cannot effectively fulfill his responsibilities.

During a press conference organized by ex-military officers under the theme “The State of Ghana Today,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also drew attention to the troubling prevalence of perceived corruption among political officeholders, their unexplained amassing of wealth, tribalism, nepotism, and a self-centered focus, particularly within the current administration led by President Akufo-Addo.

“In our senior years, restful sleep eludes us. Ghana has become entrenched in perceived corruption among political public officeholders who accumulate unexplained wealth, exhibit tribalism, nepotism, and self-interest, especially under the current regime of President Akufo-Addo.”

“How can ministers hoard significant sums of cash in both foreign and local currencies within their residences, acquire prime properties in Accra and various regions, drive the most luxurious vehicles, and live extravagantly, all while expecting our youth, who predominantly lack meaningful employment, to be content?”

These are crucial warning signs that could jeopardize the nation’s security, and we must give them serious consideration. The Akufo-Addo I was familiar with, with whom I engaged in numerous discussions and demonstrations, is not the same as the Akufo-Addo who currently holds the presidency he added.

“We have noticed with grave concern, the clear disrespect shown by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to protestors led by the minority in parliament and many aggrieved Ghanaians. It cannot be true that the ‘OCCUPY BOG’ demonstrators were solely on any political agenda when they were joined in the March by other well-meaning Ghanaians to show their indignation against actions taken that have led to losses to the taxpayer.”

“Ladies and Gentlemen, incompetence and inefficiencies should not be condoned in public office as far as the output of such officers impoverishes ordinary Ghanaians. If you can’t do the work, RESIGN. It is that simple.”
