Three exceptional players have been nominated for the 2023 CAF Awards, ensuring that Ghana is well-represented. Ernest Nuamah, Mohammed Kudus, and Thomas Partey are all vying for different categories.
Kudus and Partey have been nominated for the esteemed Men’s Player of the Year title. The 30 players that CAF shortlisted were both deserving of their spots. During Arsenal’s Premier League season, when the Gunners came dangerously close to overtaking Manchester City for the title, Partey displayed his talent. In addition, he was instrumental in motivating Ghana to earn a spot in the 2022 World Cup and excelled in the competition.
Conversely, Kudus was Ajax’s best player in the previous campaign, netting an astounding 18 goals across all competitions and dishing out seven assists. Additionally noteworthy, the 23-year-old was Ghana’s best player during the World Cup.
Top players will compete fiercely against them; Victor Osimhen of Nigeria is the front-runner after an incredible season with Napoli. Napoli’s first Serie A championship in thirty-three years was won largely thanks to Osimhen’s 26 goals. Along with Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, treble winner Riyad Mahrez, Sadio Mane of Senegal, and Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi, there are four other nominees.
Ernest Nuamah, who plays for Lyon, a formidable French team, has been duly nominated for the Young Player of the Year title. In the 2022–23 season, the 20-year-old winger for FC Nordsjaelland had a fantastic season in the Danish Superliga. Among his many accomplishments were winning three individual awards: Player of the Season (selected by teammates), Best Player for the Spring (determined by coaches), and Young Player of the Year. With 15 goals and 4 assists in 34 games, Nuamah’s stats were quite impressive.
The CAF Awards 2023 men’s category nominee list was unveiled as the Awards Gala, which is set for December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco, gets closer. A panel of African football legends, CAF Technical Experts, and media representatives from different nations carefully considered each nomination, taking into account plays from November 2022 to September 2023.
