The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Carbonou, has instructed all headmasters in senior high schools to strictly adhere to the rule against charging unapproved fees, regardless of the circumstances.

Carbonou emphasized that even if a school faces challenges such as a lack of prepaid units or detergent, headmasters should refrain from imposing additional fees and instead report the issue, waiting for the appropriate authorities to intervene.

Expressing concern about starting the school year with controversies, Carbonou emphasized that, irrespective of the justifications, the rule clearly prohibits charging any fees in any form. He underscored that there would be consequences for violating this rule, reinforcing the importance of adherence to established guidelines.

“…the right thing to do is to just report that there is no unit on your prepaid and you will wait until such a time that the authorities will provide the prepaid.”

Seven senior high school headmasters in the Ashanti Region have been asked to resign because they unlawfully collected money from candidates who were assigned to their institutions.

This is contained in directives that these headteachers received in separate letters from the GES.

The senior high schools are; Kumasi Girls, Asanteman, Kumasi, Manso Adubia, Agric Nzema Community, Nkawie and Collins Senior High School.

“It has come to the notice of Management the collection of unauthorised monies as part of the admission process,” a letter dated December 8, 2023 to the Headmasters read.

The letter detailed the unapproved funds, which included payments for, among other things, anniversary cloth that had been sewn, house dues, books sold, calculators sold, and anniversary cloth.

As a result, the Headmasters were requested to transfer immediately.

“Based on the above and as the code of conduct stipulates, you are to step aside for investigation to be conducted. you are hereby directed to hand over all properties of the school with effect from 8th December, 2023 to the Regional Director of Education,” the GES directed.
