One of the nationally celebrated organizations working for social transformation and enhanced living conditions of citizens through pro-marginalized and policy influencing is 20 years old.
Norsaac launches it 20th anniversary on July 27, 2022 at Tamale in the Northern region to celebrate the 20 years of transforming lives, with a public lecture on the theme “scourge violent extremism in the sub-region: threats to Ghana security, stability and socio-economic development”.
The Executive Director, Mr. Mohammed Awal Alhassan, in his welcomed address made known to the audience, the historic journey of Norsaac organization grown from just a club to a national organization within a period of 20 years.
The Main Speaker,Prof. Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, Director, Faculty of Affairs and Research, KAIPTC, speaking on the theme explore on the factors and forces needed to build to prevent the nation from violence extremism where he made reference to some surrounding country that have been attacked. He added on the Factors that can expose Ghana attacks scourge violent extremism where he throw more lights on the galamsy sites, and looking down minor groups like the Fulani’s. “We need to understand and sanitize our borders and also create partnerships local authorities where the modern state institution can partner with the local chiefs through sensitization” he said.He further caution political parties and leaders on the use of vigilantes to win political power and promising them security service jobs is one of the tools to violent extremism in Ghana.In conclusion, He made recommendations in order to “see something, say something” we need to build trust, a trust between the civilian and the stated security and to brake the Accra base institution to a local base institution.
Panel discussion brought together Mr.Adib Jatikay Saani, a security analyst speaking on the scourge violent extremism in the sub-region: threats to Ghana security, stability and socio-economic development. Where he highlighted on the local vulnerabilities and security measures that need to be kept in place.
Miss. Memuna Abdul-Rauf, from the youth development and peace building, speaking on behalf of the youths, the solution to Violent Extremism has to be youth employment, and empower with softs and technical skills, and also be allowed to participate in decision making , both the youths and females these can prevent violent extremism in Ghana.
Rev.Fr. Clement M.Aapengnuo,PhD. Conflict prevention and peace building specialist, also added to reduce local vulnerabilities to scourge violent extremism in the sub-region: the youth must be creativity , honest and have a change attitude and prepared mind ready to build themselves in one way can prevents threats to Ghana security, stability and socio-economic development.
The Northern Regional Minister Hon. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, the special guest expressed his gratitude and praise Norsaac on their 20th anniversary launch and works on gender based advocacy and promoting the equality of women in Ghana. He also remarks the organization contribution has been recognized on regional and national levels for its efforts on promoting women participation in governance and promoting reproductive health activities using various advocacy strategies and participatory methods in the five(5) regions of Northern Ghana in the area of youth and community advocate and the contribution during the COVID 19.
