The single powerplant in Gaza has been declared to be unusable, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned that hospitals there are rapidly turning into “graveyards” as a result of medical equipment ceasing to function.
Hisham Mhanna, an employee of the ICRC in Gaza, warned that the only power company in the Palestinian enclave would shut down entirely in the coming hours in a video broadcast on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Hospitals in Gaza already struggle with a staffing and resource shortage, and the number of people being treated for catastrophic injuries as a result of the ongoing Israeli attack rises hourly.
According to Ashraf Al Qidra, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, “our medical operation is in a precarious situation” as a result of Israel’s embargo and reluctance to permit fuel into Gaza.
According to Ashraf Al Qidra, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, “our medical operation is in a precarious situation” as a result of Israel’s embargo and reluctance to permit fuel into Gaza.
He issued a grave warning about the potential repercussions of the continuous power outages, saying that the situation in the hospitals runs the risk of a “huge loss of these lives” if prompt action is not taken to restore electricity.
Negotiations and attempts to make it easier for fuel and vital medical supplies to enter have been unsuccessful. Israel must end the blockade and provide the people access to the fuel they desperately need, according to the Gaza Power Plant. The shutdown casts doubt on the Strip’s capacity to continue existing in the days to come.
Later, the Ministry of Health issued a statement warning of a disruption to healthcare services throughout the Gaza Strip due to hospitals’ lack of beds for the injured caused by Israel’s bombardments.
“Hospitals no longer have enough beds. As Israeli violence increases, the sick and injured people are lying on the ground. Since the Israeli occupation drained the medical system and reduced its capacity, we hold the Israeli occupation entirely accountable for the lives of the injured and ill.
Following an Israeli Army attack on the only point of contact the residents of Gaza had with the outside world, the Rafah Border Crossing was shut down. The Egyptian government then announced the sending of convoys carrying humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza.
If Egyptian convoys or any other form of aid attempt to reach the besieged zone, Israel has pledged to destroy them.
