Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that high-tech technology is progressively being used in farming.
According to the Vice President, farming must adopt cutting-edge blockchain, internet, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in order to validate the fourth industrial revolution.
On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, Dr. Bawumia made these remarks during the official opening of the Siriboe Institute of Agribusiness and Skills Development.
The institute was founded by Nana Yaw Sarpong Siriboe, the 2022 National Best Farmer, and is situated in Juaben in the Ashanti Region.
With funds from his savings, his farm (Siriboe Farms), and his prize money (GHC 1 million) for winning the 2022 Best Farmer Award, a 700-seat capacity facility was established with spaces for formal lectures, demonstrations, and workshops, a creche for young mothers to enable them to gain knowledge without sacrificing their maternal obligations, a cafeteria, and a practical demonstration farm.
After the institute was put into operation, Dr. Bawumia stated in a Facebook post “I urged the gathering that the future of agriculture is no more about simple farming tools.
“The emerging technologies in Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, internet of things, etc are now the way to go to make agriculture smart in conformity to the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
“This is one of the ways to make agriculture attractive to this new generation so we should align,” he stressed.
