Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Head of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), refuted allegations that Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson had sought a plea bargain in the ongoing €2.3 million ambulance case against him. On Citi Prime News, Dr. Forson’s legal representative dismissed these claims as “untrue and unfounded,” urging the public to dismiss them.
To emphasize, he stated, “I want to stress this with the utmost certainty: Cassiel Ato Forson has not submitted a plea bargain request, whether to the court or the Attorney General. Any assertion that he has requested a plea bargain is entirely baseless and fabricated.”
He clarified that it was, in fact, the third accused party, Richard Dzakpa, who had applied for a plea bargain. Mr. Forson’s legal team had communicated to the Attorney General that they would not pursue a similar course as Mr. Dzakpa because the case did not involve conspiracy charges. Therefore, Mr. Dzakpa should be considered as an individual seeking a plea bargain.
“The third accused party, Richard Dzakpa, formally filed for a plea bargain with the court, and the Office of the Attorney General contacted us to inquire whether we objected to Mr. Dzakpa’s plea bargain. We informed them that there were no conspiracy charges, and everyone was individually responsible. Consequently, if Mr. Dzakpa wishes to seek a plea bargain, we have no objections.”
