The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) official homes in Accra, among other military prime lands, were purportedly silently cut down and sold to an unidentified private developer, however the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have refuted this accusation.
The study also claimed that some senior officers sold portions of the properties on the grounds that they were too large and hence very difficult to maintain, and that the terms of the sale are unknown.
The Armed Forces have never sold military territory to a private developer, according to the GAF.
According to GAF, it has no jurisdiction or right to dispose of the lands it uses; it is merely a custodian of those lands.
It further stated that any development on land held by the GAF has been carried out with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources’ approval and in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence.
“It is worth mentioning that there are plans to redevelop the area in question to increase the number of residential accommodations in line with the expansion programme of GAF.”
“Currently, the area in question has only two (2) residential accommodations.”
Following the redevelopment, it is anticipated that there would be thirteen (13) residential units available for senior officials. We want to be clear that there has been no sale of military land to a private developer and that the claim published in the Herald Newspaper is untrue.
“The doors of GAF are still open to the media and the general public, as such, it is expected that the media would verify such information with GAF to avert the dissemination of misleading and inaccurate information that have the propensity of drawing the image of GAF into disreput,” a statement issued by GAF said.
