Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s attorneys are adamant that Samuel Atta Akyea, the chairman of the ad hoc committee of Parliament looking into the alleged recording plotting the removal of the IGP is prejudiced.
The attorneys assert that they stand by their claims and won’t retract them.
They contend that recent investigations have confirmed their worries.
This accusation follows Mr. Atta Akyea’s assertion that the attorneys failed to bring these issues up in front of the committee during the previous closed-door meeting.
However, Kofi Bentil, a spokesman for the IGP’s legal team, to Ghana360news claims they are staying focused because they are confident that their client will be vindicated.
“We haven’t changed our positions, and we are aware of what we said and when we said it. We continue to maintain that his acts reveal bias on someone’s part. We’re hoping he can get out of that position without incident. Everything we predicted has materialized, Kofi Bentil said.
“The last time he said we should go and return to hear new evidence, my senior counsel recommended to him, ‘No, why don’t you take the evidence and if it is serious call us back.’ He replied, ‘No, we should leave and return to hear new evidence. When we arrived, there was actually no proof brought.
“So we simply went, spent some time there, and left; as a result, things have been put on hold. Everyone is voicing reservations about how things are being done, including the leaders of civil society, he said.
Samuel Atta Akyea was recently brought to the attention of the Speaker of the House, Alban Bagbin, by a few civil society organizations.
The organizations, which included Imani Ghana, CDD-Ghana, and others, met with the Speaker to express their concerns.
Franklin Cudjoe, the president of Imani Ghana, told the media after the meeting that Mr. Atta Akyea is changing the committee’s focus from its original mandate.
He claims that because of how this is impacting the Ghana Police Service’s mood and morale, the Speaker needs to take quick action.
The Abuakwa South politician, according to Mr. Cudjoe, appears to be presiding like a judge in his courtroom.
“We wished to learn from the Speaker what the Committee’s original parameters of reference were. because we observed that the committee chairman appeared to set and respond to his inquiries.
“Well, look, I gave the Chairman of the Committee clear terms of reference, the Speaker categorically stated. Basically, the comments made on the audio and the people who made them are what will determine its legitimacy, according to Mr. Cudjoe.
Meanwhile, no one can pressure them to hastily complete a subpar probe, according to Samuel Atta Akyea, the chairman of Parliament’s ad hoc committee.
In order to complete its report, the committee is now reviewing the evidence that has been given to it.
